Overview
This programme focuses on the practical application of chemistry. You will be studying an exciting mixture of modules including how to make medicines and how to control the quality of those medicines. Year one involves the study of a range of Science modules, and the subject matter covered in year two of this course includes Chemistry, Analysis of materials, Computing and Microbiological analysis. In year 3, there are further modules in chemistry and a six-month industrial placement.
The course will introduce students to the importance of quality control and quality management in the manufacturing and processing of pharmaceutical and healthcare products. It will improve and extend the supervisory, organisational and managerial potential of students to enable them to obtain well-paid, responsible positions in sectors such as Biomedical, Pharmaceutical, Biotechnology and Research institutes.
Career opportunities
Graduates are prepared for employment in the pharmaceutical, biomedical, chemical and food industries and in research institutes. They may also find employment in environmental protection, quality control of starting materials, in-process or finished products. Many graduates have progressed to employment in supervisory, organisational and managerial capacities within industry and some have obtained employment as technical sales representatives in related industries.
